Privacy at a glance
No advertising. No analytics. No tracking pixels. This website does not intentionally place cookies, use browser storage, create visitor profiles or measure individual browsing behaviour. Optional Bluesky content remains disabled unless you choose to load it.
Ordinary web hosting necessarily involves transmitting technical connection data to the hosting provider. Website photographs are hosted with the website itself and do not require a separate connection to university image servers.
Hosting and server access logs
This website is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany.
When you open a page, your browser transmits the information technically necessary to deliver it. Depending on the request and hosting configuration, this can include:
- your IP address;
- the date and time of the request;
- the requested page or file;
- the HTTP response status and amount of data transferred; and
- technical browser, operating-system or referring-page information.
This information is processed to deliver the website, maintain its availability, identify technical problems and protect it against attacks. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest in operating a secure, reliable public research website.
STRATO states that visitor IP addresses used to detect and defend against attacks are stored for no longer than seven days. Longer retention may apply only if a specific security incident or legal obligation requires it.

Locally hosted photographs
Portraits, research photographs and fieldwork images displayed directly on this website are stored with the website on its STRATO hosting account. They are delivered from the same website you are visiting, so viewing them does not create a separate connection to the University of Gothenburg or another image provider.
Standard hosting access logs may include requests for these image files as described above. Images appearing in optional Bluesky posts are different: those are retrieved from Bluesky only after you actively choose to load the feed.
Optional Bluesky research updates
The “Notes from the field” section can display Gloria’s public posts from Bluesky. This content is disabled by default. Your browser makes no request to Bluesky merely because the section is visible or because you scroll to it.
If you actively select “Load Bluesky posts”, your browser connects directly to Bluesky’s public API and, where necessary, to image servers used to deliver the displayed profile or post photographs. Bluesky or those service providers may receive your IP address, the time of the request, browser and device details, and the requested public content.
The API request is configured not to send account credentials and not to send this page as the HTTP referrer. No Bluesky account is required. The website does not create a cookie or store your choice when you activate the feed.
This optional connection is made only following your affirmative action. The legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can stop further loading at any time by reloading or leaving the page; your previous choice is not retained. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already occurred before you withdrew.
Bluesky Social, PBC may process data internationally, including outside the European Economic Area. Bluesky describes its international-transfer safeguards and privacy practices in its AT Protocol Network Services Privacy Notice and general privacy policy.
If you prefer not to load the embedded posts, the rest of the website remains fully available. You may also choose to open Gloria’s public Bluesky profile as an ordinary external link.
Contact by email
When you choose an email link, your own email application opens. This website does not provide a contact form or transmit a message until you decide to send one using your email service.
If you send Gloria an email, your email address, message and any information you provide are processed to read and answer your enquiry. Depending on the context, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, reflecting the legitimate interest in responding to professional correspondence, or Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where your enquiry concerns steps towards a contractual relationship.
Messages are kept only for as long as needed to handle the enquiry, continue an appropriate professional conversation or comply with applicable retention duties. Because the published address uses the University of Gothenburg’s email system, university communications may additionally be subject to its applicable policies and public-record obligations.
External links and professional profiles
This website links to journal publishers, DOI records, the University of Gothenburg, ORCID, Google Scholar, LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Spotify and other relevant professional resources. These are ordinary hyperlinks, not embedded social-media tracking plugins.
Those providers receive a request only when you choose to open their respective links. External links generally use a no-referrer setting so that the destination does not receive this page’s address as the HTTP referrer. Each external provider is responsible for its own privacy practices.
Encrypted connections
The intended canonical address for this website is https://gloriareithmaier.com/. HTTPS encrypts data in transit between your browser and the hosting server once the domain’s SSL/TLS certificate is active.
No online transmission can be guaranteed completely risk-free, but encrypted connections, minimal data collection and the absence of tracking reduce unnecessary exposure.
How long is data kept?
- STRATO’s attack-prevention IP logs: generally a maximum of seven days, according to STRATO, unless a specific incident or legal duty requires otherwise.
- Email enquiries: for the period reasonably necessary to answer, document or continue the relevant correspondence, subject to applicable retention duties.
- Bluesky activation: not stored by this website and reset when the page is reloaded; Bluesky’s own processing and retention are governed by its notices.
